The Bristol Fresh arrived in Exeter looking to make a mark on the tournament and right the wrongs of the loss to the hosts earlier in the season. The team started slowly, drawing three games in a row. These included the peppering of Plymouth's goal but somehow not scoring and a high quality defensive performance against Bath.
Following this, Bristol hit their rhythm and nicked a 1-0 win against a strong Exeter As side. The team pushed on with a dominating 2-0 victory over local rivals UWE. This put the undefeated Bristol side into a semis match up with Bath.
With neither side scoring in normal or extra time, Callum Lavelle and Harry Parker stepped up to take on Bath in a Braveheart finish. Lavelle used his physicality and pace to beat the Bath player and score to put Bristol into the final.
The final was a rematch with Exeter Bs, with Exeter scoring early, but an equaliser from the threatening Lavelle forced the match into extra time. Bristol pushed on and Patchett shot past the keeper to end the game and crown Bristol as champions of Freshfest!
The victory was a result of a solid defensive base, only one goal was conceded all tournament, and a structured attacking approach; both encouraging signs of improvement.
